Weeko Factory 2.0: research for more circular electronics
A shared research project
Launched in March 2024 with an expected duration of 36 months, Weeko Factory 2.0 is co-funded by MIMIT through the Innovation Agreements programme. The project aims to reduce electronic waste and recover value from components and materials.
Complementary expertise
Alongside Xera, participants include Comec Innovative, Digitalsoft, the University of L’Aquila and Università Politecnica delle Marche. Automation, digitalisation, recycling strategies, artificial intelligence and environmental assessments contribute to developing the processes.
Benefits for people and the environment
The research also aims to widen access to refurbished equipment and includes employment opportunities for people in vulnerable circumstances. Businesses contributing devices can support recovery and learn about the results through materials reporting.
